Icing Inspirations 9th Annual Cake Art Competition

November 16th (drop off) and 17th, 2024 (viewing and awards)

Rules and Regulations  (Please be sure to fully read and print a copy for your reference) 


 You can create any cookie design you like as long as it fits within the guidelines of the rules listed below.  There is no set theme. 


There will be two divisions that follow the below guidelines.   

Flat/ 2D cookies or 3D cookies. 

 

General Category Rules - Cookies

  1. Entries must be 100% edible with the exception of the board it is constructed on.    All embellishments must be edible.   The only non edible decor permitted is a ribbon on your board. 
  2. 2D entries must be a minimum collection of 6 DIFFERENT cookies.  3D cookies must be made up of a minimum of 6 cookies to form its construction.  
  3. Display board may not exceed 18" x 18"  
  4. Any sugar medium is accepted for use as decoration.
  5. Please make sure you have read and understand the rules.  
  6. Contestants may enter once in each cookie division if they choose. 
  7. All entries must be the sole work of the contestant.   Pieces that have been completed as a team will not be permitted.  Entries must not have been completed in a class or as part of a class project or assignment.   Entries must not have been entered or judged in any other competition.
  8. Entries will be accepted at the venue Saturday November 16th from 11am until 3pm.     Entries received after 3pm on November 16th will not be permitted.  Please factor in set up time.   You will be asked to leave the building at 3pm so that judging can begin.
  9. Please note that the entries will be kept anonymous to the judges.  We ask that you not post your entries on the internet until after the judging has taken place.   Business cards and advertising are not permitted.
  10. The decision of the judges is final.  
  11. Entries may not be removed until after 4pm on November 17th.    Icing Inspirations and Too Nice to Slice are not responsible for any damages done to entries.  
  12. All entries must be removed after the awards ceremony.  Entries CANNOT be removed until after 4pm on November 17th. Entries MUST be removed between 4pm and 5pm on November 17th, 2024.  The hall may charge a fee for disposable of any large items left behind.  Contestant is responsible for fee if the hall deems it too large to dispose of in their normal manner.
  13. Judging will take place on Saturday evening and awards ceremony will be held at 3pm on Sunday November 17th .  Contestants do not have to be present to qualify for an award. 
  14. Photographs of the event will be taken by Icing Inspirations.   By participating in this competition you agree that photos of you and/or your cake may be used in promotional material.
  15. Entry fees are non-refundable.

 

Marking Criteria

Entries will be marked on the following criteria:

-          Originality and creativity (15 points) 

-          Difficulty (20 points) 

-          Interpretation of colour and theme (15 points) 

-          Number of Techniques Used (15 points) 

-          Quality and precision of workmanship (20 points)

-          Overall eye appeal (15 points) 

A total out of 100 points will be awards.  Ribbons will be placed for Gold (90-100 points), Silver (80-89 points), Bronze (70-79 points) and Honourable Mention (60-69 points).

Since entries will be kept anonymous from the judges please do not include any distinguishing marks on your entry.  Entries with distinguishing marks will be disqualified.  

 

Anyone of any skill level is invited to enter the cookie competition.
